About Me!
Cristina Evans is a historically informed mezzo-soprano based in Salem, Massachusetts. In addition to early repertoire spanning the medieval to the baroque periods, Cristina is an advocate of new music and champions works by BIPOC, women, and gender non-conforming artists. She is also a lover of chamber music, and trained with Boston Camerata director Anne Azéma in chamber singing with a focus on late medieval French repertoire. Cristina has also appeared as a soloist in Henry Purcell’s O Sing Unto the Lord (Z. 44) with the Oriana Consort, and sang a selection from Leslie Uyeda’s song cycle The First Woman with the Lilith Vocal Ensemble. Cristina has been a featured soloist at the First Parish in Needham, most recently in selections from Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria (RV. 589).
Cristina is also an active arranger and has had multiple works of hers performed. While visiting the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, she researched ornamented plainchants from seventeenth century Neo-Hispanic composers and created a choral arrangement with one such plainchant in cantus firmus style. She has also incorporated the madrigal O che nuovo stupor by composer Francesca Caccini in an arrangement for SATB choir and Soprano soloist. If you would like more information regarding Cristina's works, you can contact her via this website. Cristina will occasionally accompany herself on an eight course lute, and is a voice student of Pamela Dellal and a lute student of Douglas Freundlich. Cristina holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance from Randolph College and a Masters of Music in Historical Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College. She grew up as a U.S. Army brat, and has lived in places such as Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Germany, and Brazil.
